The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
