The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Blackening the skins. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
