The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun shall be wound round, 1 And when the stars darken, 2 and when the mountains are moved, 3 The ten-month pregnant female camels are abandoned, 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 when the seas shall be set boiling, 6 And when the souls he paired, 7 when the buried female infant is asked 8 For what sin she was killed? 9 when the scrolls shall be unrolled, 10 And when the heaven is torn away. 11 and when Hell is set ablaze, 12 And when Paradise shall be brought near, 13 [then] each soul shall know what it has put forward. 14 But nay! I swear by the stars, 15 The planets withdrawing into themselves, 16 And the night when it departs, 17 And the morning when it brightens, 18 Most surely it is the Word of an honored messenger, 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 obeyed, and honest. 21 Nor is your companion distracted. 22 And indeed he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] in the clear horizon (towards the east). 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. 25 Where then will you go? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 For those of you who desire to walk the path that is straight, 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
