The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
Almighty Allah's Truth.
