The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
