۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 (When the people came to the temple and saw the broken idols) they asked each other, "Who has done this to our gods? He certainly is an unjust person". 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 'O Fire' We said, 'be coolness and safety for Abraham' 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
