Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
