The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
