The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)

In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 Eager to roast; 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 and guard their private parts 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
