Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter then My garden." 30
