The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
