The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
