The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them to feast and revel, beguiled by hope; they will come to know soon. 3 We never destroyed any town without pre-ordaining the fate of its people. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they said, “O you upon whom the Qur’an has been sent, you are indeed insane.” 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian. 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 And never does a Noble Messenger come to them, but they mock at him. 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
