And a sign for them is the dead earth. We have brought it to life and brought forth from it grain, and from it they eat. 33 We have laid out gardens of dates and grapes upon it, and made springs of water flow, 34 that they might eat of its fruits. It was not their hands that made them. Will they not, then, give thanks? 35 Exaltations to Him who created pairs of all the things the earth produces and of themselves, and that of which they have no knowledge. 36 And a Sign for them is the Night: We withdraw therefrom the Day, and behold they are plunged in darkness; 37 And [they have a sign in] the sun: it runs in an orbit of its own [and] that is laid down by the will of the Almighty, the All-Knowing; 38 And the moon, We have determined it in phases till it returns like an old palmbranch. 39 Neither is it allowable to the sun that it should overtake the moon, nor can the night outstrip the day; and all float on in a sphere. 40 And a sign unto them is that We bear their offspring in a laden ship. 41 And We have created for them the like of it in which they board. 42 And if We should will, We could drown them; then no one responding to a cry would there be for them, nor would they be saved 43 save as a mercy from Us, and enjoyment for a while. 44 And [yet,] when they are told, "Beware of [God's insight into] all that lies open before you and all that is hidden from you, so that you might be graced with His mercy," [most men choose to remain deaf;] 45 Never does any Sign of their Lord come to them, but they turn away from it. 46 When they are told to spend for the cause of God out of what He has provided for them for their sustenance, the disbelievers say to the believers, "Should we feed those whom God has decided to feed? You are in plain error." 47 And they say, “When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful?” 48 They will not have to wait long. When the Day of Judgment comes, it will only take a single blast of sound to strike them while they are quarrelling with one another. 49 No (chance) will they then have, by will, to dispose (of their affairs), nor to return to their own people! 50
