The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
