The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
