He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
