The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
WHEN THE SUN is folded up, 1 And when the stars fall down. 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 when the ten-months pregnant camels shall be abandoned, 4 And when the wild beasts shall be gathered together; 5 and when the seas are set on fire, 6 and when all human beings are coupled [with their deeds,] 7 when the buried infant shall be asked 8 Upon what sin was she killed for. 9 And when the pages are made public 10 And when the sky is torn away, 11 And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. 12 when Paradise is brought near, 13 (Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward. 14 Rather, I swear by the returning 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 The closing night, 17 and brightening morning, 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 Owner of power, and high rank with (Allah) the Lord of the Throne, 20 With authority there, (and) faithful to his trust. 21 Your Companion is not mad, 22 And of a truth he saw himself on the clear horizon. 23 He is not chary of making public what is unknown. 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 Where to are you then heading? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 to everyone of you who wills to walk a straight way. 28 but will you shall not, unless God wills, the Lord of all Being. 29
