Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn, 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
