۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?" 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He answered: "Rather it was this supreme one who has done it. So ask them, if they can speak." 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 And We gave Lut the kingdom and knowledge, and We rescued him from the township that committed vile deeds; indeed those evil people were disobedient. 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
