Said the Council of the unbelievers of his people, who cried lies to the encounter of the world to come, and to whom We had given ease in the present' life, 'This is naught but a mortal like yourselves, who eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 And were ye to obey a human being like you, ye are forthwith to be losers. 34 Promiseth he unto you that ye, when ye have died and have become dust and bones, ye are to be brought forth? 35 ۞ Away! away with that wherewith ye are promised; 36 There is nought but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we are not going to be raised up. 37 He is only a man who has invented a lie about God, and we are not going to believe him!" 38 He said: 'Help me, Lord, they belie me' 39 [Allah] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful." 40 And then the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them, justly and unavoidably, and We caused them to become as the flotsam of dead leaves and the scum borne on the surface of a torrent: and so - away with those evildoing folk! 41 After them We brought another generation into existence. 42 Every nation has an appointed life span. 43 Thereafter We sent Our apostles, successively. So oft as there came unto a community their apostle, they belied him, so We made them follow one another, and We made them bywords; so away with a people who believe not! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 to Pharaoh and to his chiefs, but they behaved superciliously and they were haughty. 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!" 47 They called them liars and consequently were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might be guided. 49 And We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign; and We sheltered the twain on a height: a quiet abode and running water. 50
