The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 facing one another. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And clustered plantains, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virginal, 36 chastely amorous, 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
