The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
