Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and the ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
