Alshu'araa' 2 of 11
And when your Lord called to Moses, saying: 'Go to the harmdoing nation, 10 the people of Pharaoh, will they not fear God? 11 He said: my Lord! verily I fear they shall belie me. 12 And I shall be embarrassed, and my tongue will not speak plainly, therefor send for Aaron (to help me). 13 And they have a crime against me, so I fear that they will kill me. 14 He said: by no means. So go ye twain with Our signs; verily We shall be with you listening. 15 Go to the Pharaoh and tell him: 'We bring a message from the Lord of all the worlds 16 Let the children of Israel go with us!'" 17 [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said [to Musa (Moses)]: "Did we not bring you up among us as a child? And you did dwell many years of your life with us. 18 You spent many years of your life among us and then you committed that deed of yours. You are very ungrateful indeed." 19 Musa (Moses) said: "I did it then, when I was an ignorant (as regards my Lord and His Message). 20 Then I fled from you when I feared you, and my Lord bestowed on me wisdom and made me one of the sent ones. 21 And [as for] that favour of which thou so tauntingly remindest me - [was it not] due to thy having enslaved the children of Israel?" 22 Pharaoh said: 'And what is the Lord of the Worlds' 23 'He' (Moses) replied: 'is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you believe' 24 Said Firaun to those around him, “Are you not listening with attention?” 25 (Moses) said: "Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers from the beginning!" 26 [Pharaoh] said, "Indeed, your 'messenger' who has been sent to you is mad." 27 He said: The Lord of the east and the west and what is between them, if you understand. 28 Said he, 'If thou takest a god other than me, I shall surely make thee one of the imprisoned.' 29 He said, 'What, even though I brought thee something so manifest?' 30 Said he, 'Bring it then, if thou art of the truthful.' 31 So (Moses) cast his staff, and lo, it turned into a living serpent. 32 And he drew forth his hand, and lo! it appeared white to the onlookers. 33
