He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
