The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
