The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 and the sorcerers prostrated themselves, 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 Said Firaun, “You have accepted faith in Him before I gave you permission! This is indeed a grand conspiracy you have plotted in the city, in order to expel its people from it; so now you will come to know!” 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 for thou takest vengeance on us only because we have come to believe in our Sustainer's messages as soon as they came to us. O our Sustainer! Shower us with patience in adversity, and make us die as men who have surrendered themselves unto Thee!" 126
