The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Who will be honoured 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and gushing water, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
