Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
