The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
