The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 thy robes purify 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
