Nay, by the Moon 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 a warning to humankind, 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 In Gardens they will question 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? 49 like frightened donkeys 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy. 56
