The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
