And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use, nor children, 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was nothing but the evildoers who led us astray. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 In this there is evidence (of the truth), but many of them do not have any faith. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
