(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
