The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 By those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed); 2 by those that swim serenely 3 And those who race each other in a race 4 And those who arrange [each] matter, 5 The day the convulsive (first blast) shatters convulsively 6 to be followed by further [convulsions]! 7 Hearts on that day shall palpitate, 8 while eyes will be downcast. 9 [And yet,] some say: "What! Are we indeed to be restored to our former state 10 Even if we should be decayed bones? 11 They will say: 'Then we are returned lost' 12 Indeed, it will be but one shout, 13 and behold! They will all come out in the open. 14 Have you heard the story of Moses? 15 When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, 16 "Go unto Pharaoh - for, verily, he has transgressed all bounds of what is right 17 And say: 'Would you like to grow (in virtue)? 18 Do you want me to guide you to your Lord, so that you should fear Him?'" 19 Then [Musa (Moses)] showed him the great sign (miracles). 20 but he denied it and refused [the faith]. 21 and hastily turned away, 22 So he gathered the people, and proclaimed. 23 then said: 'I am your lord, the most high' 24 And thereupon God took him to task, [and made him] a warning example in the life to come as well as in this world. 25 Surely there is a great lesson in it for whoever would fear (Allah). 26
