He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And hath fear, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
