And most surely this is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds. 192 It has been revealed through the trustworthy Spirit 193 Upon your heart that you may be of the warners 194 In the perspicuous Arabic tongue. 195 And verily it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Was it not a sign for them, that it is known to the learned of the Children of Israel? 197 And if We had revealed it unto one of any other nation than the Arabs, 198 they would still not have believed in it. 199 Even so, We have caused it to enter into the hearts of harmdoers: 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful torment; 201 And it shall come to them all of a sudden, while they shall not perceive; 202 they say: "Can we be granted some respite?" 203 Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on? 204 What thinkest thou? If We give them enjoyment of days for many years, 205 Yet there comes to them at length the (Punishment) which they were promised! 206 what avail will their past enjoyments be to them? 207 Never did We destroy a population, but had its warners - 208 To warn. For We are never unjust. 209 The devils did not bring it down: 210 It would neither suit them nor would they be able (to produce it). 211 The satans are barred from listening to anything from the heavens. 212 So do not invoke with Allah another deity and [thus] be among the punished. 213 And warn thy clan, thy nearest kin. 214 And spread your wing of mercy for the believers following you. 215 If they disobey you, say: 'I am quit of what you do' 216 Put your trust in the Almighty, the Most Merciful, 217 Who watches you when you stand up. 218 and observes your movements among those who prostrate themselves. 219 Lo! He, only He, is the Hearer, the Knower. 220 Should I tell you on whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every forgerer steeped in sin, 222 Who gives ear (to the devils and they pour what they may have heard of the unseen from the angels), and most of them are liars. 223 And the astray follow the poets. 224 hast thou not seen how they wander in every valley 225 And that they say that which they do not do, 226 Save those who believe and do good works, and remember Allah much, and vindicate themselves after they have been wronged. Those who do wrong will come to know by what a (great) reverse they will be overturned! 227
