Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn; 1 and the ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
