He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to a rich man, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
