The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 He said: "Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me)." 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced. 119 And down fell the sorcerers, prostrating themselves 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have cunningly devised in this [my] city in order to drive out its people hence! But in time you shall come to know, [my revenge]: 123 I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
