The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water poured out 31 and fruits abounding 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And raised couches; 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
