A multitude from the ancients. 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
