The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the great tidings! 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
