Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
