The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 or orders piety? 12 What is your opinion if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
