Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
