The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
