Noah (Nooh)
28 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Bee (Al-nahl) before Abraham (Ibrahim)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
WE SENT NOAH to his people to warn them before the painful punishment came upon them. 1 [And Noah] said: "O my people! I am but a plain warner to you, [sent to tell you] 2 Worship Allah, fear Him, and obey me. 3 “He will forgive you some of your sins, and give you respite up to an appointed term; indeed the promise of Allah cannot be averted when it arrives; if only you knew.” 4 'My Lord' said he, 'night and day I have called my nation, 5 But all my calling doth but add to their repugnance; 6 Every time I have called to them, so that You might forgive them, they have only thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, grown obstinate, and given themselves up to arrogance. 7 Then I called them openly, 8 and indeed, I spoke to them both publicly and in secret: 9 "Ask for forgiveness of your Lord," I said. "Surely, He is the Forgiver. 10 He will shower upon you torrents from heaven, 11 'And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers." 12 ‘What is the matter with you, that you do not desire honour from Allah?’ 13 when He has created you in stages? 14 Have you not regarded how God created seven heavens one upon another, 15 And hath made the moon a light therein, and made the sun a lamp? 16 And Allah has made you grow out of the earth as a growth: 17 and He will later cause you to return to it and will then again bring you out of it. 18 Allah has made the earth a wide expanse for you 19 That you may go along therein in wide paths. 20
